Let there be light!
So much for weekly posts!
As I prepare for my exhibition at Galerie Old Chelsea (September 12 to 26 – invitation under the text here) I am thinking about how wonderful that gallery is, especially the lighting.
We often forget how important light is. The colours in our spaces are very much affected by lighting so it is important to observe what lighting we have, both in the daytime and at night. Since warm incandescent light bulbs have now been largely replaced by cooler flourescents and LEDs you may have noticed that your rooms look a bit different. This is not your imagination – changing your lighting will change how colours look.
Art loves light. It is good to consider this when placing art in a space. You may want to consider supplementing existing light to make your art “shine”. Lighting experts generally favour adjustable pot lights or track lights instead of lights such as “picture” lights placed very near to a piece. The next time you visit exhibition spaces such as the National Gallery or the Museum of Civilization take note of how the lighting brings objects to life – very educational.
Especially now, as the days get shorter, consider how good lighting can enhance your spaces and your life in general.
