Art (Mixed Media Painting) Instruction – a personal approach for you
One of my favourite activities is teaching art – especially one-on-one. It’s a win-win situation. Both the student and I can totally focus on having a great creative experience.
How does this work? Let’s suppose that you want to take some lessons from me. First I will ask you to bring me examples of your work. But hold on. If you don’t have any art that you have created or you don’t want to show me anything that’s ok. In any case I won’t be looking for framed masterpieces, just an indication of what you are “about”. If you are a complete beginner I will suggest a program which, although largely experimental, touches on some basics such as colour mixing, value (understanding light and dark) and composition. We will also talk about what really interests you – for example realistic art vs. abstract art. Then we will have fun together creating goodness knows what and you will find out that you are interested in far more than you originally thought!
The “fun” is, in my opinion, learning at its best. For really “fun” is creating without fear. Fear is enemy number one – to be eliminated as much as possible. When we give fear the “boot” we open ourselves to truly enjoying the whole process of creating art. I have to admit though that this is sometimes easier said than done. In part it’s an ego thing. Most people are proud of beautiful results but are not so keen on sharing what they perceive as something “dumb” that they have created. I say be proud of all achievement. Those less-than-perfect “dumb” things are the first steps on the road to better and better things. So let’s get going…
