Artist Trading Cards – a bit of info.

Tonight I am giving a talk about ATCs (2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ art) for the West Carleton Arts Society. Here are my handout notes – places to get materials and how/where to be inspired. If you want to know more about this art form feel free to contact me.

MATERIALS AND STORAGE:

STUFF IN AND AROUND YOUR HOME or STUDIO!
“Dollar” stores – baseball card holders, papers, cheap paint, brushes, stickers, sequins etc.
Michael’s – paper cutters, everything you can imagine! – buy with their discount coupons!
Omer DeSerres – Karen Foster craft bags, artist supplies, Wallack’s artist supplies
ONLINE: Curry’s Artist Supplies (Toronto), many others – Stratchmore papers even supplies pre-cut art card stock, card holders & envelopes
Any craft store
IKEA has inexpensive drawer units etc. Canadian Tire has lots of inexpensive plastic drawers & bins.

IMAGES /INSPIRATION

Your art!
Your art books, kids books, pop-up books, ANY book, magazines including craft-specific ones like Somersert Studio, newspapers. TRY USING A PORTION OF AN IMAGE.
Create a “surprise”. Thought of 3D? Think beyond visual -how about “touch”, “sound”?
Internet: Wendy Soutin’s website (dragonflydreamers.blogspot.com), Flickr, Pinterest, Trading sites,Television/Social Media
Photos – use your cellphone or other camera. How about old photos (photo transfer)?
The great outdoors can be very inspiring – landscapes etc.
Specific themes: anything at all like “Holidays”, “Monsters”, “Star Wars”, “Maps”, a colour, recycled greeting cards
Don’t forget SERIES!
