The Art of Doing

Welcome to my blog page! My goal is to share with you my passion for art and for interior decorating.

This first blog is for each and every one of us who has “ideas”.

When I began writing this I was reminded of Thomas A. Edison’s saying that “genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration”. I think that this idea certainly applies to all creative pursuits, even blogging.  It’s great to dream but it’s a lot better to crank ourselves up and actually do something.

Has your creativity gone on vacation? An art teacher of mine once said that it takes a good month to get back “in the groove” after taking an extended break from painting. Well, how true this is (in my experience anyway). When I haven’t painted or designed something for a couple of months I sometimes have to struggle just to get past the studio door. My work can be annoyingly boring. But, sure enough, after a month or so I’m back on track – ideas flow and my studio and I are once again on friendly terms.

So – if there is something that you would like to create just get going and “do”.  You may have to pretty patient with yourself. It may take quite awhile for your fear to disappear (can we really be so afraid of pencils and pens, canvases, cameras, blank computer screens, pieces of paper or cloth or metal or chunks of clay or paint chips – it appears to be so)! You may make mistakes from which you will learn not to make said mistakes again. And so it goes. Just remember: doing makes for more doing.

Welcome to the blogosphere, Marie. Congratulations on your new site; it looks fabulous. It showcases your art work very well. I’ve been blogging for less than a year now but I find it really does stimulate my creativity. I enjoy posting my photographs and becoming part of a blogging community of female photographers. We all support, encourage and inspire each other. Drop by when you have a chance!
